Rueremus

Lucy Bleach with Alethea Coombe, Mona Foma 2021

Rueremus draws its title from the Latin word ruere - "to fall". Installed in a mid-century garage complex, Rueremus featured a series of seven suspended ice slabs, each Impregnated with a strata of rocks and minerals pertaining to Tasmania's unique geological character. Violinist Alethea Coombe performed in the space on 5 occasions, presenting a variation and adaptation of John Cage’s One6. The improvised melodies were played in tandem with the sounds of falling stones and dripping water. After the space closed each day, the illuminated ice sculptures and a projected video work were viewable through street-front windows, from dusk until dawn.

Presented with the support of The University of Tasmania.
